Haibike presents a new generation of e-performance with the SDURO, on show to consumers for the first time at Eurobike 2014.
Young, wild and uncompromising; SDURO.
The new collection features twelve e-mountain bikes, one trekking and one cross bike, all powered by a high-performance Yamaha motor with 70 Nm torque, double chain wheel and zero cadence support that starts on the first crank turn.
Ideally matched components, a fresh design and unbeatable price make the new SDURO electric bikes interesting for a young target group as well.
The SDURO AllMtn PRO is the highlight of the collection. It’s the first e-bike that uses the energy and sensor technology from the available Yamaha drive unit for the electronic suspension control (e:i shock) .
SDURO – young and dynamic like its riders
With the SDUROs Haibike especially serves young, dynamic mountain bikers, who enjoy off-road trails but also want to use their bike in everyday life.
Accordingly the bikes are a mix of high performance and a cool design without giving up innovation.
Christian Malik, Haibike’s senior product manager, says: “The new SDURO line offers sportive e-bikes with the uncompromising performance demand that is typical for Haibike. It is especially aimed at young cyclists that are looking for a dynamic riding experience”.
In accordance with that a balance of high quality and high-performance components and a reasonable retail price were very important. Haibike now offers SDURO models starting at 1,999€.
Yamaha drive units make for high speed power
With the SDUROs Haibike relies on a Yamaha drive unit for the first time. The Japanese manufacturer is considered a pioneer of e-bike power and has been producing them in high volume since 1995.
Felix Puello, Head of Product Management at Haibike, explains: “We found the perfect partner for our SDUROs in Yamaha. Their drive units convince mainly through great performance and efficiency”.
In addition the Yamaha system makes software adjustments, depending on the models, possible for the first time.
The battery can be charged directly on the SDURO, locked or taken out. Thanks to the sideways removal possibility the battery can be used in the smallest frame sizes like the 35cm Hardtail and 40cm Fully. The compact build and low weight of just 6.4 kg round off the Yamaha drive unit.
The rider retains a complete overview thanks to the detachable, centrally positioned display. An innovative mounting system makes it possible to adjust the display position over two axles to ideally fit the cyclist’s needs. With the remote control the rider controls all system functions from his handle: 4 support modes, total and trip distance, time and trip time, maximum, current and average speed. This information can be read even when the display is detached. The built-in walk-assist function is especially practical in rough terrain – difficult stretches on mountains can be easily managed thanks to the control button on the remote control.
New look for more riding fun
The decor design is also oriented at the Haibike design language, however, it was newly interpreted: “Whereas the XDUROs have high-contrast, sportive optics, the SDUROs have a much clearer design: monochrome, highly matt main colors are contrasted with cool colored highlights, which accentuate the main lines of the frame.
Moreover, an own font interpretation was developed for the SDUROs, which will also be reflected in the staging“, explains designer Alexander Thusbass, partner of the Kucher&Thusbass agency.
Haibike SDURO AllMtn Pro with e:i shock
The Haibike SDURO AllMtn PRO promises unlimited riding fun no matter if uphill or downhill. It is the first ebike to have a fully automated gear control (e:i shock). The system is not run by its own battery, but makes use of the Yamaha engine concerning sensor technology and energy.
Therefore it was possible to integrate the intelligent damper in the existing e-bike technology for the first time. The damper position varies according to the terrain, special sensors in the Yamaha-System permanently measure speed and cadence.
The intelligent gear control has four different modes: as already described, in the automatic mode the damper constantly adapts to the terrain conditions. Open means fully active damper with unlimited off-road use. In the locked mode the damper is steady and medium stands for the compromise of open and locked damper.
With its extremely light aluminum frame, the 27.5” wheels and the Rock Shox Pike fork with a travel of 150mm the All-Mountain-Fully is best equipped for tours on the mountain.
The biker is supported by a high-performance 250 watt Yamaha middle motor which, thanks to the “Zero-Cadence-Support”, gives the necessary drive even in demanding sections.
Integrated in the frame, the engine is protected from damages at all times. The clear multi-functional display makes sure that the driver always has a good overview of all data. With the support of the 400 Wh Lithium-Ion-battery also extensive tours are easily possible.
The SDURO AllMtn PRO is completed by the ideally aligned components like the hydraulic disc brakes, the 20s Shimano shifting system or the Hans Dampf Evolution tires by Schwalbe. The frame is characterized by the eye-catching, double downcast top tube and the compact proportions. In terms of color the bike has classy, dark grey tones with cyan and lime highlights.
The SDURO AllMtn Pro is available in four frame sizes (40, 44, 48, 52cm) for 4,999€ and in two more versions without e:i shock as RX model for 3,999€ and as RC model for 3,999€.
SDURO HardSeven and HardNine RX
With the SDURO HardSeven and the HardNine RX, Haibike developed two absolute highlights for all hardtail fans.
According to their preferences the bikers can choose between the 27.5” and the 29” version. The big wheels ensure more riding stability and a more comfortable ride, since they roll over obstacles and dents more easily. The 27.5” wheels make for an easier speed-up, which helps to make the bike more maneuverable and agile.
Both bikes are equipped with a very light aluminum frame, whose tube-set is manufactured with the hydroforming process. The material-protecting deformation helps to save weight and furthermore an even higher frame stability is guaranteed.
The bikes are powered by the 250 watt Yamaha middle motor with “Zero-Cadence-Support”. The lithium ion battery has power for 400 Wh, is mounted on the middle motor and can easily be removed sideways.
The Fox 32 Float CTD fork has a 100mm travel and thus also leaves room for rough downhill rides. Due to the hydraulic disc brakes by Shimano and Racing Ralph tires by Schwalbe used on the HardSeven and HardNine, the biker is able to keep control of his bike at all times. The precise 20s Shimano shifting system rounds off the package.
The black/red colored HardSeven RX is available in four frame sizes (35, 40, 45, 50cm) for 2,899€.
Also available is the RC (2,499€) and SL (1,999€) versions, as well as HardLife RC (2,499€) with different component equipment.
The HardNine RX in black/red/white is also available for 2,899€ in four sizes (40, 45, 50, 55cm).
The other models RC and SL are available for the same price as the 27.5” versions.
SDURO FullNine RX
The SDURO FullNine RX makes all tour specialists happy. The aluminum frame gives ideal stability to the bike; at the same time the Rock Shox Reba SL fork with a travel of 100mm works very smooth in difficult terrain or on downhill rides.
Like all SDUROs the FullNine RX is also powered by a high-performance, reliable 250 watt Yamaha mid-engine, which is perfectly integrated in the frame. Depending on driving behavior and terrain the 400 Wh Li-ion battery has a maximum range of up to 130 km and can be removed sideways for charging. Range as well as other useful info such as speed or time are clearly indicated on the multi-function display.
The 20s shifting system and the front and rear hydraulic disc brakes are provided by Shimano. Perfectly aligned for the FullNine RX are the Schwalbe Nobby Nic Evolution tires.
The bike is available for 3,399€ in four sizes (40, 45, 50, 55cm). The FullNine in classy black and grey with red highlights.
SDURO Cross RC and SDURO Trekking RC
In the cross-country and trekking area Haibike developed two bikes for those who prefer long tours over fast downhill rides. The SDURO Cross RC with its 28” wheels and aluminum frame is equipped with a high-performance 250 watt motor by Yamaha. The battery with 400 Wh is ideal for long tours. Also during the ride the clear display can be operated easily and comfortably.
The Suntour NRX-D suspension fork with a 75mm travel effortlessly absorbs small bumps and ensures a relaxed ride. Furthermore the SDURO Cross RC is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes and a 20s shifting system – both from Shimano – and Smart Sam Performance tires by Schwalbe.
The female version is available in four sizes (48, 52, 56, 60cm). Concerning optics the bike scores with a casual black with cyan and lime elements. The RRP is 2,299€.
The 28” SDURO Trekking RC has the same motor as the Cross version, shifting system and brakes are also identical. With 63mm the Suntour NCX-EB fork, however, has a slightly lower travel. The trekking bike is completely suitable for road traffic. The Trelock Bike-I-Duo LED headlight reliably illuminates the road with its 35 lux. Additional safety is granted by the LED rear light.
Furthermore the SDURO Trekking RC is equipped with carrier, stand and mudguards. Less striking than the lighting is the color: the Haibike designers chooe subtle shades of black and grey and some highlights in cyan.
For a price of 2,499€ three women’s and four gent’s versions are available.
